Time Out Challenges 11th Birthday

Hi crafty friends! I’m super excited to be guest designing for Time Out for such a special occasion. It’s their 11th Birthday and super happy to be celebrating with them. For this special occasion, we will be CASEing (Copy and Selectively Edit) the wonderful Donna Mikasa of Three Umbrellas. CASE is basically taking the elements you like that inspire you from a project and making it your own. It does not mean completely copying the card.

This was the beautiful card that inspired my card. For me, I was inspired by her layout and the embossing, so I started with my background first.

I used Gina K Designs’ Master Layouts 1 to die cut a white and a navy cardstock with the Large Rectangle 1 and 2 silver cardstock with the Large Rectangle 2. I die cut out 5 navy feathers with GKD’s Fancy Feathers Dies. I glued the feathers onto the navy cardstock and cut anything hanging off the sides. I embossed my white cardstock with GKD’s Swiss Dot Embossing Folder.

I measured 1-1/2″ from the opposite ends of the white and navy cardstocks and cut it with a paper cutter. I took one of each and glued it onto the silver cardstock. I did this twice, so I had 2 backgrounds.

I stamped and heat embossed GKD’s Delicate Flowers with WOW Metallic Silver embossing powder. I ink blended all the flowers and leaves with GKD Light Carnation, Medium Carnation, and Blue Denim Ink. I stamped the sentiment in Blue Denim and heat embossed in clear powder. I die cut all the pieces and arranged them on my card. Once everything was to my liking, I glued everything down and onto an A2 card. I decided to leave the leaf hanging off the card to make it a little different.

Since I still had the second background, I made a second card except I flipped the sketch. Which one do you like more?

Time Out’s Challenge is being sponsored by the wonderful Gina K Designs. The winner will get a $25.oo gift certificate to her store and an invitation to guest design for a future challenge. Here’s the new sketch for February.

For these cards, I used Not 2 Shabby’s Christmas Critters’ paper pads following the sketch’s measurements. The penguins are from a Recollections’ clear stamps set I bought at Michael’s, and the adorable bear is from My Favorite Things This Hug’s for You stamp set. The sentiments are from LDRS Christmas sentiments.

Here’s a closer look at my favorite one out of these two. Which one do you prefer?
